LECTURES
Week 10
This week we did a trial stop-motion shooting in groups, we referenced two stop-motion videos and tried to recreate a scene from each.
Week 11
This week we learned how to edit the images that we shot last week into a stop-motion video using Premier Pro.

FINAL PROJECT - Stop Motion
Instructions
We must create a stop motion based on a given theme, and we may choose to work in pairs or solo.
1. Research
I looked for a few motions of stop motion on Youtube and chose the top 3 I liked the best.
1. Fruit Stop Motion
I like this because of how simple and easy it is, and it looks very vibrant and visually appealing.
2. Paper Stop Motion
This one is very creative in how it goes from drawings to cut outs, which play into a very interesting storyline.
3. Foil Stop Motion
I enjoyed this one as it was quite funny, and very simple in the materials used which is just foil.
2. Proposal
I first got started on my proposal and storyboard, I went with a story about ocean pollution. I wanted it to be colourful and cute.
3. Editing
After filming the stop motion, I imported the jpeg sequence into Premier Pro. I initially used 5 frames per second but I slowed it down as I thought it was too fast. Some scenes are 6 frames per second, and some frames are 8 frames per second.
I then exported that as a video and continued to colour correct my footage to make it more bright and saturated with adjustment layers. I also added some effects to transition between colour grading some of the scenes by creating nested layers with the desaturared adjustment layers and putting that on top of the original bright video. I achieved the transition effect with linear wipe and feathering it so it looks more natural.
I thought that the video still seemed a bit too quick, so I slowed the whole thing down to about 70%.

Week 11
Mr Martin suggested I build up the climax a bit more, and instead of mixing paper and clay I could just use paper cut-outs but ultimately it was my decision.

REFLECTION
Experience
Working on the stop motion assignment was quite a journey, especially since animation isn’t really my thing. Despite my initial reluctance, I dived in and quickly realized how challenging it could be. Keeping the paper and clay elements perfectly still in each frame was much harder than I expected. It required a lot of patience and precision to ensure everything stayed in place and looked consistent throughout the animation.
Observation
During the project, I noticed just how much creativity and technical skill go into stop motion animation. The slightest movement or inconsistency could throw off the whole sequence, making it clear how important a controlled environment is. Deciding on the right materials was another hurdle. After some trial and error, I chose clay for the fish character and paper cutouts for the background. This mix gave a nice contrast and added depth to the scenes.
Findings
Through this assignment, I learned that stop motion animation, though demanding, is incredibly rewarding. My struggle with choosing the right materials taught me the value of experimentation and flexibility. The combination of clay and paper ended up working really well, giving the animation a unique look. Despite not being a fan of animation initially, this project helped me develop new skills and gain a deeper appreciation for the art form.
