LECTURES

Week 1

Today Mr Shamsul briefed us on the module information and how the lectures are going to be conducted throughout the semester. We must get into groups and present something each week. He also explained about our upcoming assignments and what to expect.

This week we are required to create a presentation about the Types of Infographics. In my group, I presented about geographic infographics.

We are also required to do our own individual task which is to redesign a poorly designed infographic on a free app. I chose to do it on Canva.

Week 2

We presented the Types of Infographics and Mr. Shamsul briefed us on our next Flip Topic, which is L.A.T.C.H.

EXERCISE 1 - Quantify & Visualise Data

Instructions

Fig. 2.1 Module Information

We are required to quantify our chosen items (buttons, coins, legos, m&ms, etc.) and arrange them into a presentable layout or chart. It is encouraged to keep it simple while presenting clear and interesting information on A3 paper.

1. Classifying

I chose to use Nips candy and laid them out to see what data I'll be working with.

I then separated them based on their shared characteristics, starting with colour and size (Big, Medium, Small)

Then I rearranged a few and seperated the ones with irregular shapes and bumpy surfaces.

2. Labelling

I labeled them and added dotted lines to make the grouping more clear, and added a table chart to present my classified data in numbers.

Mr Fauzi said my presentation looked good, so I ended up with this as my final presentation.

EXERCISE 2 - L.A.T.C.H

Instructions

Fig. 3.1 Module Information

1. Planning/Drafting

I first researched on the different Pokemon games, and chose to base my infographic off the Hoenn Island map in Pokemon Emerald. I chose 4 pokemons of different types and different regions to be able to organise them using the LATCH system.

Fig. 3.2 Planning and making a draft. (11/02/24)

I also made an ugly draft just to get an idea of what information I want to have on my poster, and I prepared all the icons and graphics that I'll be using.

I organised my information based on:
Location - The different locations on the map.
Alphabetical - The order of Pokemon and locations listed.
Category - The type of Pokemon.
Hierarchy - The evolution stage of each Pokemon.

2. Designing

Next, I created a new artboard and blocked out my design without using colours as I have not yet chosen a colour scheme. I also swtiched the map as I think the new one I have chosen is more suitable for the design.

I then placed my icons and added in some colour, I chose the colours for the map pins based on the type of Pokemon found in that area.

3. Refining

I added some gradient effects to the colours I blocked out to give more dimension to the design without making it look too cluttered or messy.

I also added some simple graphics to the evolution chart that are related to the Pokemon types to make the poster a little bit more attractive.

4. Final Layout

After some minor adjustments, I've decided on this as my final poster.
