REFLECTION

Experience

Embarking on my first semester of design school, the typography class proved to be a transformative journey marked by exploration and a deepening appreciation for the art and science of type. Guided by a passionate professor, the class created a dynamic and engaging space where curiosity was not only welcomed but celebrated. Lessons ranged from understanding the anatomy of letterforms to exploring the diverse world of typefaces, each bringing new layers of insight. Practical exercises, from simple compositions to complex projects, honed both technical skills and instilled a sense of design thinking..

Observation

My first semester in the typography class has been an enlightening experience. Armed with newfound appreciation and practical skills, I now possess a refined design sensibility and a curiosity that propels me forward. This foundational course, delving into the historical context of type design, has set the stage for further exploration and refinement of my typographic skills in future semesters.

Findings

I learnt the influential power of typography in conveying emotions, setting tones, and shaping perceptions. Every typographic choice, whether font selection or spacing adjustment, became a deliberate decision aimed at enhancing the visual and communicative impact of a design. Concepts like kerning and leading, once overlooked, emerged as indispensable tools in crafting harmonious and visually appealing compositions. Engaging in critique sessions, while initially intimidating, proved invaluable in refining a critical eye and understanding the collaborative nature of design.
